Colorado STREAM Girls
Every person is a citizen of her watershed. Trout Unlimited, in partnership with Girl Scouts USA, helps girls discover what that means.
STREAM Girls is an outdoor program that combines STEM, recreation, and arts to explore local streams. Through hands-on activities as scientists, anglers, and artists, Girl Scouts in grades 4–8 gain a deeper connection to their watershed and what it means in their lives.
STREAM Girls 1.0
STREAM Girls 1.0 is typically a full-day, hands-on program designed for girls in grades 4–8, though flexibility and customization are encouraged. Participants explore a local stream, collect flow data, sample macroinvertebrates, tie flies, and practice fly casting, all while gaining confidence in the outdoors. Girls may join as individuals or with their troop, and non–Girl Scouts are welcome too.
Note: STREAM Girls 1.0 does not include fly fishing due to time constraints. Fly fishing is introduced in STREAM Girls 2.0.
STREAM Girls 2.0
STREAM Girls 2.0 is typically a half-day experience for girls in 4th grade and older that builds on the foundation of STREAM Girls 1.0. This program empowers novice anglers to strengthen their casting skills, try fly fishing, and grow into confident river stewards.
It is recommended that participants complete STREAM Girls 1.0 first, though girls are welcome to take STREAM Girls 2.0 multiple times to continue growing their skills and confidence.
