Colorado TU's Statement on Amendment 83

Colorado TU supports the right to hunt and fish and Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s current regulation of those rights as they exist in Colorado. We believe Colorado has a solid and effective, science-based approach to wildlife management based on the principles found in the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and recognizes the right to hunt and fish. We share the concern over growing efforts to limit those rights, and we have stood with other sportspeople in pushing back on efforts in the General Assembly and before the Parks and Wildlife Commission on issues such as bans of beaver trapping and fur sales.

We support the intent of Amendment 83 in protecting Colorado’s heritage of hunting and fishing and we look forward to working with our fish and wildlife conservation partners to minimize any unintended consequences or in clarifying undefined terms through the guidance (or statutory change if necessary) that will be adopted to apply the Amendment’s language in practice.
