Project Background

the need to work together

Owned and operated by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, Municipal Subdistrict (Northern Water), Windy Gap Reservoir collects water from the Colorado River for delivery across the Continental Divide. The project supplies water to more than half a million residents on Colorado’s northern Front Range.

For years, TU and Northern Water argued over Northern Water’s water supply projects, including a proposal to add additional storage to the Windy Gap Project.

But now, in a sign of the changing times on water supply in the West, an array of partners representing local agriculture, local government, east slope water providers, and conservation groups have come together to implement projects designed to reconnect and restore the Colorado River at a landscape scale level, covering both public and private lands.

By working together, we can realize the goals of this project.
