Hayden Creek Cutthroat Stocking

DSC_0616.JPG

This Project is FULL! Please keep checking back for more native trout opportunities!

USFS Fisheries Program in Cañon City needs help stocking a unique strain of cutthroat in Cottonwood Creek southwest of Westcliffe on Monday, July 1. These are the cutthroats that were rescued from the South Prong of Hayden Creek during the Hayden Pass Fire in 2016. They are hoping to stock 3,000 fish.

Anyone willing to help will need to be able to hike in with a backpack

between 4-8 miles roundtrip. Volunteers should bring a large pack frame

or backpacking pack, if possible. It is expected that each pack

will weigh between 15-20 lbs.

Exact times and more details will be coordinated the week of June 24.
